Happy Civic Holiday

Post by Julia

Apparently in Canada, today is the day for Civic Holidays, but rather than coming up with one name, each province has a different one. In Ontario, today is Simcoe Day, named after the first Lieutenant-Governor of Upper Canada.

Some of the other provinces went with a very literal holiday naming technique. For example today you can celebrate British Columbia Day in British Columbia, New Brunswick Day in New Brunswick, and Saskatchewan Day in Saskatchewan.

Some provinces don’t even acknowledge the existence of the day, except for the government workers. So essentially Civic Holiday can or can not exist.

So let us rephrase this post title: Happy Optional Holiday Day in Canada. And for everyone else, sorry it is Monday and you’re probably back at work.
