A quick look at some of the things that happened this week in the world of cable cars, urban gondolas and cable propelled transit:
- After several years of planning and design, the Teleferico Bicentenario in Santiago, Chile is expected to go out to tender in early 2015. The 3.4km system is estimated to cost $80 million USD, with 4 stations and carry 3000 pphpd.
- Line Red (Linea Roja) of La Paz’s urban gondola system was officially inaugurated last week by President Evo Morales. Ticket prices were also released with standard fares costing 3 bolivianos or about 50 cents US. Students and disabled persons are eligible for a 50% discount.
- The Kuelap Fortress in Peru will soon get its very own cable car. POMA won the contract to implement the system. It is schedule to begin construction in 2015 and be complete in 2016.
