- Little Cottonwood Canyon in Utah is looking for a solution to reduce traffic congestion to their ski resorts. Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) is considering a gondola, an enhanced bus, or an enhanced bus in a dedicated shoulder lane. The gondola, one of 150 original proposals, is estimated to cost approximately $393 million and would have stations at Snowbird and Alta resorts.
- The world’s highest track rope cable car link opened on June 6, 2020 in Vietnam. The 3S system connects the city of Hai Phong to Cat Ba Island. The cable car can transport up to 4,500 passengers an hour. The total travel time is 9 minutes compared to the 20-minute ferry ride, which sometimes has a wait time of up to 3 hours.
- Exploration of a Boulder, Colorado cable car has paused. With the unexpected pandemic, funds are unlikely for the next step, which would be conducting a feasibility study. A previous report outlined many benefits and said the system is technically feasible. Councilman Bob Yates is committed to keeping the project alive and resurfacing the idea when Boulder is ready.
- More and more systems across the world are reopening, but with new rules and regulations. Here are some examples… The French and Swiss glacier ski resorts are open with reduced capacity for their restaurants and lifts. The Balçova Cable Car in Turkey has reduced their cabin capacity by half and passengers are required to wear a mask.
