- Paris reveals plans for a new commuter cable car. The proposed 4.5 kilometer system is anticipated to begin construction this year and open to passengers in 2025. The system would integrate with Paris’ public transport system, connecting the southeastern suburbs of Créteil and Villeneuve-Saint-Georges with the subway. The cable car will take 17 minutes, less than half the time the same route takes by bus.
- A private developer is waiting for approval for a gondola overlooking Kalamalka Lake in Canada. The proposed development includes a gondola with three stations. At the base station there will be a plaza, amphitheater, café, farmers and artisan market, and retail outlets. The mid-station will allow for stops with access to trails and viewing platforms. The summit will have a restaurant, viewing platform, walking trails, and bike trails. Construction is expected to begin in 2023, with the goal to open some amenities by 2024.
- As the Cannon Mountain’s aerial tramway in New Hampshire ages, local authorities look to the public for suggestions. The first aerial tramway was built in the 1930s and was replaced in 1980 for approximately $5 million. To replace the lift again, it is estimated to cost between $24-$32 million.
- The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways of India (MORTH) announced the construction of eight ropeway projects in the upcoming financial year. The eight ropeway systems would total a length of 60 kilometers. The target projects are planned for hilly areas of the country, including two systems in Jammu Kashmir.
