  • Jordan’s first cable car project, Ajloun Cable Car, is almost complete. The $15.5 million (USD) project is located in the Northern highlands. An additional $76 million (USD) has been allocated to other amenities near the cable car, such as shops, restaurants, cafes, parks, and other facilities. The 2.5-km system has an initial capacity of 40 cabins, but can be increased up to 60 cabins to meet future demand.
  • Construction for the Dominica cable car is set to begin in November. The $54 million (USD) project will provide a quick trip to the Boiling Lake in the Morne Trois Pitons National Park. The 6.6-km system is connecting the Morne Trois Pitons National Park, a World Heritage Site, to the east side of the capital. Once completed, Dominica will hold the title of the world’s longest cable car. See a related Weekly Roundup here.
  • The Penang government is reviewing proposals for the proposed cable car on Penang Hill. The request for proposals (RFP) was released on January 13, 2021 and closed on November 30, 2021. Proposals range widely because the successful bidder will have to both build and operate the system. This allows all proposals to present different business models, and include additional features to the project. The project is expected to be awarded by the end of 2022 with the goal of creating a successful tourist attraction.
