- Mount Bellenden Ker tower and cable car in Queensland, Australia celebrate 50 years of operation. The bicable system is not for tourists but rather serves as transportation for the workers who broadcast from the top of Mount Bellenden Ker. This 1,597-meter-tall mountain is the wettest place in Australia and receives more than 8 meters of rain a year, which requires careful maintenance against rust on the cableway. The system was built by hand in the early 1970s where each of the 21 tower foundations were dug by shovel.
- Beyond Skyway in the Katoomba Gorge near Sydney, Australia adds the ability for tourists to climb onto the top of the cabin for a 360-degree view of the area. While the cableway has been a part of the park since the 50’s, the scenic trek is a new addition. It is open for just a few hours before and after sunset for tourists to harness in and see Katoomba Falls, Three Sisters, Mt. Solitary and the Jamison Valley from the rooftop.
