A quick look at some of the things that happened this week in the world of cable cars, urban gondolas and cable propelled transit:
- The Metrocable in Medellin has inspired the Minister for Transport, Environment and Agriculture in Geneva (Switzerland) to start drafting a cable car system for his own city. However, this is apparently not the first time Geneva has seen an urban gondola proposal as several lines were mooted last year when the Green Party revealed their own plans.
- An application to build a gondola for Arthurs Seat, a large tourist attraction near Melbourne (Australia), has been submitted. If approved, the new system is expected to transport up to 300 people, cost $20 for an adult ticket, and be completed in 12-18 months.
- Seattle Weekly takes a closer look at their city’s waterfront gondola proposal and the team that’s behind it. The 800m system is envisioned to transport a maximum of 1800 people with cabins arriving every 16 seconds.
