A quick look at some of the things that happened this week in the world of cable cars, urban gondolas and cable propelled transit:
- After undergoing system testing for 90 days, Turkey’s first public transit cable car — the Yenimahalle-Şentepe Teleferiği — officially opened for passenger transport this week. The 3.2km cable car has 106 cabins which can transport 2,400 pphpd. Travel times will be reduced from 25-30 minutes to only 13.5 minutes. A video of the opening ceremony can be viewed above.
- While Translink did not include the SFU/Burnaby Gondola in its latest transit plans, this hasn’t stopped the Simon Fraser Student Society from continuing to press local and provincial governments to reconsider.
- To celebrate the coming summer season, a number of parties and events will be taking place at the new Sea to Sky Gondola in Squamish. Festivities include sunset yoga, music series and fireside chats.
