Ghost Town Gondola

Post by Steven Dale

Image via English Russia.

I recently came upon a series of photos of the virtually abandoned (and disputed) city of Tkvarcheli, Georgia.

Included in the series is several photos of what appears to be an equally abandoned gondola holding watch over a completely bombed out and desolate former Soviet mining town.

No real comments or insights to provide, just some hauntingly compelling imagery. It’s well worth the look.

As always, if anyone knows something about this system, feel free to post in the comments.

  1. old USSR was full of mining towns , and ropeways were a practical systems to reach the mining pits for the miners, look here : Tyinyauz http://danila85.livejournal.com/141833.html
  2. Great pictures. Very creepy though. Probably a good place to visit on Halloween.
