A quick look at some of the things that happened this week in the world of urban gondolas, cable cars and cable propelled transit:

Harbour Cable Car (Sydney, Australia)
Sydney may soon see a cable car transporting users across the Bays Precinct and connecting Rozelle Bay to Barangaroo. Business leaders are supporting a 5 station, 3.4km urban gondola which is envisioned to enhance connectivity throughout the precinct. The area in study currently suffers from poor transit service despite its proximity to the CBD.

Cable Car Plans Delayed (Vietnam)
The world’s biggest cave, Sơn Đoòng, may not see a cable car until 2030 as the government has put a stop to all construction activities. Officials, including the mayor, promised to keep the cave in its natural state. Original plans for a 11km system were announced back in October last year to the dismay of many environmentalists.

Most Innovative City (Medellin, Colombia)
Medellin continues to capture the hearts of city builders around the world. As many observer’s already know, the city’s urban transformation was accomplished through smart and innovative investments in libraries, plazas, parks and much more. However, as explained by the mayor, it’s urban cable car network, the Metrocable, remains one of its most prized pieces of infrastructure.
