- The Panamanian government will kick off construction of the San Miguelito Metrocable in 2020. The $120 million (USD) system will have 7 stations and travel approximately 8 km in 22 minutes. The gondola is intended to connect Panama’s metro lines 1 and 2. The system was approved over a year ago and construction was expected to start in 2019. The reason for the delay is unknown.
- The Hobart cable car project in Australia remains stalled due to lack of adequate fire protection. The city of Hobart has a concern with the bushfire protection as outlined in the fire protection report. According to the article, the Mount Wellington Cableway Company (MWCC) is looking forward to working with the council to resolve their concerns.
- The city of Sarajevo in Bosnia and Herzegovina is getting another cable car. The cable car system will travel 2.5 km with 40 10-person cabins. The facilities for the $10 million (Euros) system will have a lifespan of 40 years. The cable car equipment is designed by Leitner.
- Korea’s first cable car tourist attractions are no longer a must see. Tongyeong City and South Gyeongsang built the first cable cars in the county, both boasting ocean views. By 2018 cable cars were being installed almost yearly in locations throughout the nation, decreasing ridership for the initial two systems. The cable car boom is expected to continue, as well as its impact on ridership for the earlier cable cars.
