- Thredbo, Australia launched their new Merritts Gondola this week. The system’s installation saw several challenges related to bushfires and COVID-19, but Doppelmayr still completed the gondola on schedule. The new lift has quadruple the capacity of the old double chairlift, with the ride to the mountaintop taking six minutes. While the gondola was being installed other improvements were also made to the resort which now exclusively uses clean renewable energy.
- The Penang Hill cable project is moving forward even after the loss of federal funding. The Malaysian cable car and other transit networks are part of the Penang Transport Master Plan, and officials say the projects will continue to advance by raising funds from other sources.
- Blue Mountain Resort in Pennsylvania provided 2020 graduates a free photo in a gondola at the mountain top yesterday. About 400 graduates from preschool to post-secondary school road the open-air gondola for free with their immediate family members to the top where a photographer snapped pictures.
- Many cable car systems world-wide are reopening, after pausing operations due to COVID-19. Just a sampling of these include: Skyride gondola, Dubrovnik cable car, Heavenly Mountain gondola, Winter Park, and Bridger gondola.
