Just Give It A Chance

Post by admin

We’ve experienced a “few” extra hits here on The Gondola Project since this article came out in the Toronto Star.

I know many of those new visitors may be hostile to the idea of Cable Propelled Transit, and that’s okay. All I ask is three things:

a) Remember, this site is a work-in-progress. If you there’s something you want to know, please ask it, I’m happy to respond.

b) Talk to each other and communicate.

c) Just keep an open mind. Be a little bit imaginative. Have fun.

  • Hi, I was just reading the article on the Toronto Star. I think this is brilliant. I believe in this more than all there other unreliable public services. Also, personally I prefer to be above ground than underground.

    Hope this becomes real.

I will post this link on my site and also on my facebook and all.

    Thanks

    Pascal

Glad to hear you think it’s a good idea, Pascal. But don’t just take my word for it. Do your own research and make up your own mind. At the same time, thanks so much for the vote of confidence.

Surprised that the article did not mention the DCC cablecar peoplemover at Pearson Airport – it’s the same as proposed for Oakland and the same as the one in Las Vegas between Mandalay Bay, Luxor and Excalibur (also used in the new City Center project too).

That’s the funny thing, we’ve had one under our noses in Toronto for a few years now and no one’s even noticed.

Thanks for picking up on that Ron.

Several years ago, sitting in Steven’s Cabbagetown apartment, having him regale me with the concept of Urban Gondolas, was the beginning of seeing this option as being a boon for the City.

As a recent convert to living in the lovely City of Pickering, dangerously close to Sheppard and Meadowvale, I might add, I was a bit sore to stagger upon the proposed Transit City LRT route. I would have been perfectly happy with an extension of the Sheppard subway line (cost, feasibility, and city planning aside), and would have used such a service. But I have zero plans of using an LRT line using a semi-dedicated right of way system, or anything that stops at a gozillion street-level stops along the way.

So bring on the Gondolas for Sheppard, and pretty much everywhere else. Think Big, Toronto!

See, even a crotchety, old, stick-in-the-mud suburbanite can get on-board with this idea.
