Weekly Roundup: Cable-Propelled Systems are Still Noteworthy, Even Years After Construction

The historic 1902 Wellington Cable Car is still in use today and considered a must see attraction in Wellington, New Zealand.

  • A cable car in Prague, Czech Republic, will begin operation in 2023. The system will allow passengers to cross the Vltava River, traveling between Podbaba Station, the zoo, and Krakov. Currently, this route is only possible via a ferry that operates only during the Summer months. The construction cost for the 2.24 km line is estimated to be between $39 to $59 million (USD). The 3S system will have 17 cabins with the capacity to hold 35 people. The total travel time will be 7 minutes.
