Mi Teleférico (English: My Cable Car) aka Teleférico La Paz-El Alto is the world’s largest network of public transit aerial cable cars. Statistics from 2018 indicate that the system transports an average of 151,000 passengers per day while daily ridership is estimated at 350,000 once all eleven systems are built and operational. The total investment of the entire network of cable cars is estimated at $740 million.
The Red Line (Linea Roja) was the first to open in May 2014, with the Yellow Line (Linea Amarilla) and the Green Line (Linea Verde) opening in September 2014 and December 2014 respectively.
In July 2014, another six cable car lines were announced (Phase 2) at a total cost of $450 million. Since then the proposals continued to evolve and change as further design and engineering studies are conducted.
